The LifeHouse Story

How it started…

In 2008, Ben and his family packed up and moved to Salem County, hoping simply to be closer to his job as a service engineer with Bell & Howell. What they didn’t know then was that God was writing a much bigger story. As Proverbs 16:9 reminds us, “A person’s heart plans his way, but the Lord determines his steps.”

For years, Ben wrestled with God’s call on his life. Eventually, he stopped running and fully surrendered, pursuing a graduate certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies from Liberty University. It was during this season that Ben clearly sensed God’s call—not just to pastor, but to plant a church right here in Salem County.

In January 2020, after many years of prayer and preparation, a small group gathered midweek for Bible study. Just a couple months later, the world shut down due to COVID-19. Even so, God’s plan was not put on hold. When restrictions eased, that Bible study blossomed into outdoor worship gatherings. As the weather grew colder, the little group of believers took a leap of faith and began meeting for Sunday morning worship. Their very first service was held on November 15, 2020, at the Pennsville Public Library.

From those humble beginnings, God continued to provide and lead. The church has moved from the library, to the high school cafeteria, to a former Christian school building, and in November 2023, God brought the congregation back to Pennsville Memorial High School. Today, we meet in the auditorium each Sunday for worship, and throughout the week the facilities host ministries like the Abide Women’s Bible Study, Rooted Student Ministry, MidWeek Adult Bible Study, and Masterpiece Special Needs Ministry events.

Through every season, God has shown Himself faithful. What began as one family’s move for work has become a thriving church family with a passion to reach Salem County with the Gospel, grow into fully devoted followers of Jesus, and go share the Good News beyond our county lines.
